Bordeaux experiences a temperate, oceanic climate with warm summers (June to August) and mild winters (December to February). Bordeaux weather is influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean as well as the Gulf Stream which has a warming effect. Summer rainfall is common in Bordeaux. In summer temperatures average around 68°F (20°C), while average winter temperatures hover around the 43°F (6°C) mark. Frosts are common in the winter months but snowfall is very rare, occurring only once every three years or so.Bordeaux gets over 2,000 hours of sunshine every year and its mild climate makes it a year-round holiday destination. Summer is peak tourism season, as with most of France. However, many visitors consider spring the best time to visit Bordeaux, in order to avoid the hot weather and crowds of the summer months. Although autumn can be rainy, September to November is also a pleasant time to visit Bordeaux. However, it should be noted that most of the wineries close during October which is the traditional harvest time in Bordeaux. Winter is also an option, particularly as the city's attractions - beautiful architecture, good restaurants and great wine - are not dependent on hot weather.
